CENTER NEWS 10/4/2007:
Ames Guest Wireless Service Now Available 24/7
POC: Kevin Jones, mailto:Kevin.L.Jones@nasa.gov
The NASA Ames guest wireless service, ARC-WLAN-GUEST, is
now available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. (Previously
this service was not available between midnight and 6 a.m.) However,
due to budget constraints, technical support for the service will still
only be offered during normal business hours, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.,
Monday - Friday. In the event of an after hours security incident
involving the guest wireless service, it may be necessary to
disable the entire service, without advance notice, until the next
business day. Sponsors are reminded that all guest users
require a guest account and must abide by the usage agreement.
Inappropriate activities may result in permanent suspension of
the guest user's wireless account. For more information, please visit
the WLAN Web site at http://wlan.arc.nasa.gov.
VPN
The only VPN protocols allowed for guest users are IPSEC and TCP 10,000 to other NASA Centers only.
We're very proud of our computer network capabilities. We have a fast connection to the Internet and NASA Ames Open Network. All of our wiring is Category 5, and we have phone, ethernet and video ports in every room.
Need a phone conferencing or expecting a call? We'll provide a line, and a phone, if you want one, for your event. If you need a conference-room style speakerphone, contact us well in advance.
Presenting any materials, such as a PowerPoint presentation? Use our Proxima Pro AV 9400+ LCD and our Sharp-brand video projectors connected to your laptop. Also bring some transparencies we have Over head projectors and we'll set up the screen and equipment for you.
Feel like videoconferencing? Our Polycom View Station FX-brand equipment is part of NASA's videoconferencing network, and can easily connect to most commercial videoconferencing sites, as well. We can also arrange multi-point conferences with other NASA sites.
With advance notice, we can coordinate with the NASA Ames groundstation to receive satellite downlinks, which can be viewed in any room in the NACC. In addition, we are connected to NASA's Vidnet system, so we can receive special NASA programs.
